PCOS Awareness Month

September is PCOS Awareness Month, but the challenges extend far beyond a simple month. With 1 in 8 couples experiencing infertility issues and 1 in 10 women suffering from PCOS , there may be more friends than you are aware of that are quietly struggling, and keep it to themselves out of privacy, stigma, embarrassment, or any number of reasons. It can get lonely, thinking you are the only one. You are not alone! As we're approaching over 4.5 years of trying for kids without success, my advice to others would be: To couples that are trying to get pregnant - If you have been trying to have kids without success for months, see a fertility specialist as soon as possible; don't wait. And, if you are beginning to try, it's not a bad idea for both you and your partner to get bloodwork and a check-up right off the bat to make sure everything is working right and you both are healthy. I am obsessed with reading and being able to immerse myself in different worlds. My current favorite contemporary authors are Brandon Sanderson, Marissa Meyer, and John Green, with Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen forever holding a spot in my heart for authors from a different century. If given the choice between reading, or going out to do an activity, I will hands down always choose to sit curled up on the couch reading a good book, with some eggnog or apple juice, and a comfy blanket. The few things that can pull me away from my current book are ballroom dancing, and my wonderful husband, whom I have been married to for over five years now. Along with reading, I absolutely love writing. Ever since I was little, I would imagine myself in the worlds that I was reading about and I would find such happiness, adventure, and fulfillment from that; a chance to escape and be whatever I wanted to be.
