Exercise in Desire: Apple Of Honor

In one of my creative writing classes, we did an exercise about desire. We were challenged to find a story, and write it from several different viewpoints, so the reader could empathize and understand where each of the characters was coming from. Enjoy! Hera sighed, the peacock feathers in her luscious brunette braids waving softly in the sea breeze. She glared up at her home, Mount Olympus, on her right, thundering in the distance, eyes narrowing. Tonight was not a night that she wished to be home, and in the same proximity as her husband. That petty goddess of trouble, Eris, had just started her worst disaster yet. She had thrown a golden apple in the middle of a wedding feast, to be claimed by the fairest goddess of them all. Having this apple, that glorious title of, “the fairest,” that would stop all of the whisperings in the godly court. The Journey of Creation

I am obsessed with reading and being able to immerse myself in different worlds. My current favorite contemporary authors are John Green and Brandon Sanderson, with Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen forever holding a spot in my heart for authors from a different century. If given the choice between reading, or going out to do an activity, I will hands down always choose to sit curled up on the couch reading a good book, with some eggnog or apple juice, and a comfy blanket. The few things that can pull me away from my current book are ballroom dancing, and my wonderful husband, whom I have been married to for over a year. Along with reading, I absolutely love writing. Ever since I was little, I would imagine myself in the worlds that I was reading about and I would find such happiness, adventure, and fulfillment from that; a chance to escape and be whatever I wanted to be.
