The Journey of Creation
I am obsessed with reading and being able to immerse myself in different worlds. My current favorite contemporary authors are John Green and Brandon Sanderson, with Louisa May Alcott and Jane Austen forever holding a spot in my heart for authors from a different century. If given the choice between reading, or going out to do an activity, I will hands down always choose to sit curled up on the couch reading a good book, with some eggnog or apple juice, and a comfy blanket. The few things that can pull me away from my current book are ballroom dancing, and my wonderful husband, whom I have been married to for over a year.
Along with reading, I absolutely love writing. Ever since I was little, I would imagine myself in the worlds that I was reading about and I would find such happiness, adventure, and fulfillment from that; a chance to escape and be whatever I wanted to be. I wanted to give that joy and thrill to others; to give them the chance to immerse themselves in other worlds and have the ability to experience the same happiness and thrill from reading that I had experienced. I started writing from the time I was ten and have been writing ever since. My dream is to one day be a published author! This blog is a way to document that journey of creating.
As writers, or artists of any kind, we constantly hear things like, “You want to do what? That’s nice.” “When are you ever going to be famous?” “Why writing? It is never going to work out for you.” “Why art? It is never going to work out for you.” “It is never going to make you any money; why bother?” “You should do something you’ll actually be good at and give up that childhood dream. Live in the real world.” “It’s a pipe dream; don’t even bother trying.” I started this blog to be a safe haven and spot of encouragement and advice for aspiring authors and artists. To be a place that fellow writers and artists can come to share ideas and thoughts, and be uplifted and encouraged.
Think of the famous authors and artists: C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Mary Shelley and Lord Byron, and Salvador Dali and Marcel Duchamp. They all have one thing in common; that they were great friends with fellow creators. They bounced ideas off each other and were there every step of the way to encourage their friends in the journey of creation. They helped each other to succeed and were better because of their friendships with people in similar fields. I want this blog to be a chance for writers and artists to come together and share ideas and thoughts with each other and advice that they have found to be true in their particular field of expertise. Each of us have very different and unique talents and abilities to bring to the table to help one another progress. I am not an expert by any means, but I want to strive to give advice in a field that I have spent plenty of hours, days, weeks, months, and years in: writing.
I will be posting several times a month with various writing advice and encouragement. If you have any ideas for posts you would like to read or would like to write a post yourself on something you love and are an expert on, leave me a comment below.
Here is to helping each other on our different journeys of creativity. Happy creating!
